Opening: “Cuba Si, Bloqueo No!” ~ Looking at Revolutionary Cuba
November 3, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
“Cuba Si, Bloqueo No!” ~ a photo exhibition and a series of events throughout the month of November presented by HotHouse and PO Box Collective ~ is timed to coincide with a campaign to pass a resolution in Chicago City Council that would call for ending the blockade and normalizing relations with Cuba.
Curated by Marguerite Horberg, the exhibition shines a light on Cuban culture, history, and everyday people. It features photos by Marc PoKempner, David Obermeyer and Stan West in addition to Horberg.
The opening will feature an Artists’ Talk and Live Music with Ida y Vuelta and Magic Carpet.
Ida y Vuelta features Jaime Garza and Laura Cambron. Their presentations come from a long tradition of Mexican folk music called Son Jarocho. The genre is a fusion of African, Spanish-Arabic and Indigenous music and poetry. Ida y Vuelta keeps the spirit of traditional “sones” alive, which date back over 300 years. Performing this music, they aspire to make known its rich historical and musical value. www.idayvueltamusic.com
