Rogers Park Treatment Not Trauma Town Hall

Rogers Park needs Treatment Not Trauma. Come join Rogers Park neighbors in a community town hall on the Treatment Not Trauma program that could implement a mental health first responder program that uses trained mental health professionals instead of armed police.

This program has been successfully working in many cities around the country. It was implemented as a small, underfunded pilot program in last year’s city budget—but It needs to be fully funded and implemented for everyone in Chicago. Come learn about the program, why it is better to have social workers response to people experiencing mental health crisis, and what we can do to build support to win it in Chicago and in Illinois.

We will be joined by program and policy experts, including Alderwoman Maria Hadden, who has signed onto the official Treatment Not Trauma ordinance as a co-sponsor to Alderwoman Rossana Rodriguez Sanchez’s ordinance; our own State Rep. Kelly Cassidy along with State Sen. Robert Peter who championed the state bill (CESSA); and others that have had direct experience with police where those trained in mental health response would have been appropriate and even perhaps saved lives.

Actually, 87% of Chicagoans want to see less money spent on police and instead fund community services like Treatment Not Trauma instead. Come find out what Treatment Not Trauma is, why it will help people with more respect and dignity than a police response, how it will keep us all safer in the end, and how it will better allocate resources and even save the taxpayers money.
