The Battle of Algiers – Screening & Discussion

The Battle of Algiers (1966), directed by Gillo Pontecorvo, is a gripping, documentary-style portrayal of Algeria’s fight for independence from French colonial rule. Focusing on the 1950s urban guerrilla warfare in Algiers, it captures the brutal tactics and human cost on both sides, offering a stark, realistic depiction of colonial resistance.

Featuring live, virtual commentary from Algerian cultural activist Mohammed Benloulou, streaming directly from Algeria, along with additional guests TBA!! This event is presented by SpaceShift Collective.
