Virtual Movie Night! but with a twist

PO Box is pleased to announce something different for the next Movie Night! Four local artists will present projects that explore image, text, animation, and performance.
Writer/ Performer, Timothy Rey, will present an original monologue followed by images that partner with the dramatic text.
Collaborators Qais Yahia Assali, a Palestinian artist and researcher, and Amanda Assaley, Chicago-based Syrian-American artist, will restage a live table-reading: a performative virtual tour guide that explores language, mistranslation, connections and disconnections of the culturally appropriated Shriners’ Medinah Temple in Chicago. The guided tour was originally designed to move participants from the Chicago Cultural Center and the Medinah Temple but was canceled due COVID-19 and only happened virtually on zoom.
Gwyneth Zeleny Anderson works with video and animation to give form to common sensations and phenomena that are invisible and often evaded. For their presentation, Gwyneth will ooze animations into your hands. It’ll have a strange freshness and focus on things that are habitually avoided.
Media artist Ronen Goldstein will mix outdated tech and software to recontextualize the webcam feed. He works against the limits and reductions of the monitor while still finding moments of surprise and joy.
